Dear Parents,

As afterschool practices for our spring parade continue, I want to ask that you take a moment to discuss with your child the importance of following all rules and procedures for such rehearsals.  Here are some of them:

  1. Students are to go to the gym after the 3PM bell and wait to be called to the band room (around 3:15).

  1. Students are to come to the band room promptly when called.  They are to enter quietly and immediately assemble their instruments and move to the parking lot to line up in parade formation. No one may linger in the band room for more than two minutes.  This is to keep the “traffic” moving in and out and not creating a “traffic jam” of students gathering their instruments.  Note: students must stay outside of the yellow bus lanes when crossing the parking lot!

  2. Students should use the restroom and get water before 3:15, as there will be no schedule restroom breaks during practice.  If a student has an emergency, he or she will be permitted to enter the gym under the supervision of an adult.  Mr. Spraggins must be notified.

  1. Students should be with Mr. Spraggins at ALL times during afterschool rehearsals.   No one should enter the school for any reason without permission from Mr. Spraggins—no exceptions (today nine students were caught in the gym without permission—from this point forward this will result in such students being dismissed from the parade).

  2. When rehearsal is dismissed, students are to put their instruments away (when instructed) and then go to the assigned area of the parking lot to wait on rides. No student should be in the band room or in the school as we wait on rides.

  3.

All of these things are designed to keep our students safe.  We have a large number of members in our band program and a limited number of adults to supervise.  It is important that all students follow these rules and procedures at all times.  Failure to do so will result in such students being dismissed from participating in the parade.

Thank you for discussing these matters with your child.  I want band to be a fun and safe experience, and I need everyone’s help in achieving this.

Best,

Mr. Spraggins
