Special Notice for Percussionists

September 2015

*Due to the limited space on morning and afternoon school busses, percussion students will no longer be able to transport their percussion kits to and from school on the busses.

*With this in mind, students may use the school percussion equipment during daily band classes, and they may keep their kits at home for home practice. Students should bring their drum sticks to band class each day (see below for more information on sticks).

*Students may continue to bring their kits to school and to store their instruments in the band room at any time if they wish.   However, they must arrange for a parent or guardian to drop the kit off and pick it up.

*Once weekly after school percussion practices begin, I would like for percussionists to have their kits in the band room for these rehearsals if at all possible (one afternoon per week).  Again, this will require someone to transport the kits, as bus transportation will not be allowed. If this is not possible, we will make other arrangements.

*In the coming weeks, the percussionists will be required to learn some very challenging skills, so having access to these kits for home practice will be essential. We will also use them for performances.

*Also, all drummers should bring their sticks to band class each day.  However, these sticks should be left in backpacks while outside of the band room and, especially, while on the bus.  Bus drivers have been directed to take up any sticks that are visible on the school busses.

We’d love to hear from you!
